Closed-book multiple-choice test, 75% pass mark; confirm any additional practical assessment.

This two-hour course explores fatigue, its effects on performance and practical ways to manage the risk. We will agree the scope with reference to your operating pattern and requirements.

  • Sleep fundamentals, circadian disruption and the causes of fatigue, including medical factors.
  • The effects of fatigue on crew performance.
  • Sleep-disorder awareness and when to seek appropriate medical advice.
Operational patterns and countermeasures
  • Long-range operations, intensive short-range schedules and multiple time zones.
  • Practical fatigue countermeasures and adequate opportunities for rest.
  • Lifestyle considerations: nutrition, exercise and family commitments.
Responsibilities and risk management
  • Applicable flight-time, duty and rest requirements.
  • Crew responsibilities for adequate rest and fitness for duty.
  • Integrating fatigue risk management into the operator’s safety management system.
